I suppose you're here in search of some information on my senior project this quarter. Well here it goes:
This quarter I'm working on a children's alphabet book; the content of the book is going to be a fun and visual and centered around the different critters that inhabit the Olympic National Park in Washington state. Each letter in the alphabet will represent a different critter, and each critter will be placed within it's letter, which is made up of the habitat the critter lives in.
This blog will mostly show images from my project, and progress, BUT I'm also hoping that this project leads to an actual published circulating popular book ... so we shall see.
Here's what I've got so far.
D is for Deer Mouse

F is for Pacific Chorus Frog

Alec, I am Kris Lira, Ivory Lira's mom. Ivory sent me the link to your blog so I could see your work and now I see why. This is AMAZING!! Not only is your artwork flawless, but you have done so much research and really know the critters you're drawing and their habitat! You've done a WONDERFUL job!! There is a book in Alaska, similar to your concept here, called Alaska ABC's maybe? The artist is Shannon Cartwright and she has a whole series of children's books that are very popular up here with tourists AND with locals because not only are her drawings fabulous, but she really knows her stuff. I think your work is on a par with Shannon's and I hope you achieve your dream of publication soon. I'm going to pass this along to my sister-in-law, the librarian, who lives in Des Moines, Washington and my niece, the elementary school teacher and see what they have to say.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. Good luck with this project!
Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging words Kris! I will absolutely check out Shannon Cartwright's illustrations. :)
